STICKY'S WAFFLE AND CHICKEN

Price: R64 without sides

Sticky BBQ is famous for their Ribs and burgers, but they have cooked up something different in the kitchen this time around, and well done to Sticky's for this amalgamation of two different worlds. At first I thought the waffle and chicken combo was a little weird, but then I had to convince myself that it can’t be too different from bread with chicken right?
When I opened my take away box, the waffle and chicken was exactly as it is in the picture- I could see the bits of bacon, the chicken, the syrup on the bottom waffle, and the salsa. The portion size is more than enough to get you sorted for lunch/dinner.

Overall, the waffle and chicken was good to eat, although it was hard to get my hands around it. To be safe, use utensils lol! I could taste each and every bit of ingredient in there and this caused a fusion of flavour in my mouth.

The southern fried chicken was delicious, but it had too much salt and seasoning so it sometimes overpowered everything else. All I did was put some of the chicken pieces aside and had them later on. Also, if you’re not an Avo person, you may not like it, but I’m sure you can ask them to go easy on it or eliminate it completely.
Having been at Sticky’s before, the staff is always friendly and cool. They are efficient and fun! (Especially the guys!)
So Head down to Sticky BBQ in Rondebosch, Main road or in Observatory( lower main road), and try this awesome dish!

KFC BURRITO

PRICE: R67.90 with regular chips and cooldrink

I told myself I wasn’t going to review franchises that we’re used to, but this review is inspired by my mom, so I couldn’t resist; I had to know why she’s head over heels about the KFC burrito.
The burrito is like their twister, only filled with rice, beans, corn, salsa, cheese, avo and of course, chicken strips. I’m pretty sure right now those who are trying to avoid Carbs are taken aback by the rice and wrap combination, but trust me it’s worth every calorie.

My first bite was a bit dry so I had to dig in a little dipper to get to every ingredient, and I wasn’t disappointed. The burrito tastes good I must say, it is filled with just enough of each ingredient. The wrap is moist and the ingredients go well together. I also like the fact that it wasn’t filled with too much corn and beans, which is a tactic we all know very well by a lot of restaurants. Everything is sufficiently present, including the chicken.

Overall, this was a good dinner for me. shoutout to my mom for this one! So next time you go for those dunked wings, try the burrito!

STICKY BBQ'S TUESDAY RIB SPECIAL!

Sticky BBQ is famous for their ribs, wings and shakes, and I just had to go try their Tuesday rib special. Every Tuesday, you can get a full rack of ribs for R85 without any sides  or drinks. In a nutshell, my trip to Sticky BBQ was triumphant.

To paraphrase Amy from the Big Bang theory, their ribs are a vacation for your teeth. The meat beautifully falls off the bone and you don’t struggle to take a bite or to chew. The BBQ basting sauce is delicious too; it is well-balanced and is neither too sour nor too sweet. The ribs are covered with just the right amount of sauce that doesn’t overpower their taste. Trust me, when you finish your rack you will want more!

Side note: You know the cartilage that you normally find attached to ribs? At sticky’s, this is also nicely flavoured and can be quite nice to eat.

The portion size is quite fair, and the staff is always friendly at sticky BBQ.
I’d recommend matching the ribs with their sweet potatoe fries and one of their cocktails. One cocktail I’d recommend for you is “Call me an Uber”. I know the name is quiet daunting but trust me, it is quiet safe.

Sticky’s done did it again… ENJOY!

CUBANA's RIB BASKET

Address:  9 Somerset Rd, Green Point, Cape Town, 8005
Price: R90

Most clubs don’t make good food, and so when I was told that I have to try Cubana’s food I was very skeptical, but curiosity got the better of me and I headed to Cubana in Greenpoint, Cape Town. The atmosphere is great: dim red lights, proper deep house music playing, smell of good food and the sweet, sweet smell of hookah (if you’re in that sort of thing).
I ordered a rib basket, which is LITERALLY a basket of a generous portion of fries topped with very good looking ribs.  The presentation couldn’t have been better. Their fries are medium sized, crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside, with no trace of oil; all good characteristics of a well-cooked fry right?
Now getting to the meaty part of the night (quiet literally), the ribs were well sauced and quiet big. When I dug my teeth into that rib, I finally knew what paradise is. Their BBQ sauce has the right amount of sweetness and spiciness, the ribs are neither too hard nor too soft and overall I had a very good dinner. Generally, their portions are filling and they leave you satisfied.

It is worth noting however, that getting a table is a mission there, so if you want to enjoy your night without chasing the manager around, get there early or book a table prior.

The Odyssey Gastropub's Monday burger special

Price: 2 burgers for R100

You know when you want to try out a dish just because it looks good on Facebook? That's what happened to me with this special; I kept seeing it on my timeline as a suggested post and I was like "alright Facebook, I hear ya". So I grabbed a few friends and we went to the ODYSSEY on Bree Street in Cape Town.

The space is quite nice with an upstairs and downstairs space; and we had no problems getting someone to help us, which is always something you want when you get to a new restaurant.

The options are beef, chicken or vegetarian burger with either a salad, rosemary fries or cajun skins (which are fried potatoe skins seasoned with Cajun spice)

I opted for the chicken burger and Cajun skins and the first thing I noticed was the size of the chicken breast in my burger (as seen above). The chicken breast was HUGE, tender and very tasty. Ah! When trying out a burger, the bun is the last thing you look forward to, but I tell you, the ODYSSEY bun is different. The bun is sooo soft, and has the consistency and taste of steamed bread (ledombolo as we call it in my language).

The Cajun skins were very tasty, although overly spiced. My friends ordered beef burgers, and overall they said the burger is delicious but the patty is a bit too oily. The rosemary fries were delicious (if I say so myself, because I'm a fry stealer) but there could be a bit more rosemary in them.

So there! I've hooked you up with a Monday night boredom buster... Enjoy and thank me later :)
